NOSE IN A DAY, El Capitan, Yosemite

In Yosemite Valley, lies El Capitan and its most famous route, the Nose.   This 3,300 ft granite monolith is the gem north american climbs; so much so that climbers have left their gear upon summit, retiring after their biggest accomplishment.

This spring Alexis Finley and Joe Stearn teamed up for a 20 hour speed ascent during their first time up the Nose.  During this ascent they were caught in thunderstorm and a downpour of hail.   Local Yosemite photographer, Tom Evans, documented this ascent with photos and descriptions.

The Sheild, El Capitan, Yosemite

PMG guides Pete Fasoldt and Eli Simon climb El Capitan’s most exposed route, The Sheild.  This Big Wall route  is known as one of the most spectacualr places on El Capitan.  They spent 4 days on the wall before summit.  This was Pete’s 5th route on El Capitan and Eli’s 6th.

Pete and Eli are the co-owners of Atlantic Climbing School in Bar Harbor, Maine.
